Our Oklahoma child support calculator gives you a monthly estimate. Move the sliders for both parents’ income, choose the number of children, set the overnights, then add your childcare and health insurance costs.
The tool follows the same income shares method Oklahoma courts use, so you get a grounded range rather than a guess. A judge still sets the final figure in your case.
How the Oklahoma Child Support Calculator Works
The calculator asks for seven inputs. Each one is something a judge also looks at when setting support.
| What you enter | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Your gross monthly income | Income before taxes from wages, self-employment, and other regular sources. |
| The other parent’s gross monthly income | Support gets split in proportion to both incomes, so your best estimate is fine. |
| Number of children | The state schedule sets a different base amount for 1 through 6 children. |
| Overnights per year with you | Shared parenting time of 121 or more overnights can adjust the amount. |
| Monthly childcare or daycare cost | Work-related childcare is added to the obligation and shared by income. |
| Monthly health insurance premium | The children’s portion of medical, dental, and vision premiums counts. |
| Whether the other parent’s income is documented | Flags cases where a self-employed parent’s earnings may be understated. |
Once you enter your details, the calculator shows an estimated monthly range with a breakdown. You can see your base support share, your childcare share, your health insurance share, and any parenting time credit, along with a midpoint figure.
Treat that range as a starting point for a conversation. Using the tool does not create an attorney-client relationship, and no calculator can account for every fact in a real case.
Oklahoma Child Support Guidelines
Oklahoma sets support by formula, which means both parents’ earnings shape the result rather than one parent’s paycheck alone.
The rules live in 43 O.S. §§ 118 through 118I. The state uses an income shares model built on a simple idea. A child should receive close to the same share of parental income they would have received if both parents lived in one household.
The math runs in 3 steps:
- Combine the incomes: Both parents’ adjusted gross monthly incomes get added together.
- Look up the base amount: That combined figure is checked against the Child Support Guideline Schedule.
- Split it by share: Each parent covers a percentage of the base obligation equal to their percentage of the combined income.
Here’s what that base amount looks like at a few common income levels.
| Combined gross monthly income | 1 child | 2 children | 3 children |
|---|---|---|---|
| $2,500 | $445 | $643 | $755 |
| $5,000 | $654 | $943 | $1,105 |
| $8,000 | $905 | $1,303 | $1,526 |
| $10,000 | $1,097 | $1,537 | $1,807 |
| $15,000 | $1,372 | $1,961 | $2,305 |
Those figures are the combined obligation for both parents, not what one parent pays.
Say you earn $5,000 a month and the other parent earns $3,000. Your combined income is $8,000, so the base for 1 child is $905. You carry 62.5% of the combined income, which puts your share at about $566 before childcare, insurance, and any parenting time credit.
Oklahoma Child Support Calculation Factors
The formula pulls in more than salary. Small differences in these inputs can change the monthly figure.
- Gross income from every source: Oklahoma counts earned and passive income under 43 O.S. § 118B. That includes wages, tips, commissions, bonuses, severance, military pay, self-employment earnings, rental income, and investment returns. Means-tested public assistance is excluded, as is child support you receive for children outside the case.
- Number of children in the case: The base obligation climbs with each child, though not in equal steps. At $8,000 combined income, the jump from 1 child to 2 adds $398 a month.
- Overnights with each parent: The parent with fewer overnights pays support to the other. Once the paying parent reaches 121 overnights a year, a parenting time credit can reduce the obligation.
- Work-related childcare: Daycare and after-school care tied to work or school get added on top of the base amount and divided by income share.
- Health insurance for the children: The children’s portion of the premium is factored in. Coverage counts as reasonable in cost when the paying parent’s share stays at or below 5% of that parent’s gross monthly income.
- Cash medical support: When a child has no health coverage, the order can include $115 per child, prorated between the parents. The paying parent’s share should not exceed 5% of gross income.
What Can Change the Amount of Child Support
The guideline figure is presumed correct, though several things can shift it before a judge signs anything.
- Imputed income: When a parent is self-employed or underreporting, a court can assign income based on industry wages in the area, education, work history, lifestyle, and assets, or minimum wage for at least 25 hours a week. Our attorneys use this often when the numbers on paper do not match how someone lives.
- The exact overnight count: Counting overnights loosely is a common and costly mistake. Because your custody schedule drives that count, support and parenting time often get resolved together.
- Children from other relationships: Support already ordered for other children reduces the income available in this case.
- Deviation by the court: A judge may depart from the schedule when the guideline amount is unjust or inappropriate, and the change serves the child. The order must include written findings explaining the reasons.
- Later modification: An order stays in force until someone files to change it. Oklahoma Child Support Services treats a 20% swing (and at least $30 in the calculated amount) as a material change worth reviewing. Job loss, a raise, a new parenting schedule, or a change in childcare costs can each trigger that kind of swing.
If your circumstances have shifted, our guide on modifying a child support order walks through what the court expects.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Below are a few questions Oklahoma parents ask us most often about support estimates and orders.
Does Shared Custody Affect Child Support In Oklahoma?
Yes. Once you have 121 or more overnights a year, you may get a credit that lowers what you pay. Equal time does not cancel support when you and the other parent earn very different amounts. How the schedule itself gets decided is a separate question, settled under the child’s best interests standard.
How Much Does a Child Support Lawyer Cost in Oklahoma?
The cost depends on whether your case is agreed or contested and how much work a fair order takes. We give free case evaluations, then quote a fee once an attorney has reviewed your details.
How Long Does It Take to Get a Child Support Order in Oklahoma?
It depends on the route you take. Oklahoma Child Support Services finishes a review or modification within 180 days. A district court case can move faster when both parents cooperate.
Can You Help if the Other Parent Lives in Another State?
Yes. Oklahoma courts can still change your order while you, the other parent, or your child lives here. We handle the filing, registration, and enforcement across state lines.
Do You Handle Child Support Cases Outside Oklahoma City?
Yes. We have offices in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Lawton, and we serve families across the state, including Edmond, Norman, Moore, Guthrie, Shawnee, and Stillwater.
Our attorneys are licensed in Oklahoma, Texas, and the Chickasaw Nation, so we can also help families in sovereign nations within Oklahoma. You can reach our child support attorneys in Tulsa at the same number.
Know Your Number Before You Walk Into Court
Most parents find out their support amount for the first time from a judge. Get yours first, then bring it to an attorney who can tell you if it holds up.
